Where is the Edit button?
In the land of mordor, where the shadows tell lies.
Take care with those who say the shadows lie, for those who say you should look only into the light oft wish to keep you blind.
The shadows outside of Mordor are very trustworthy.
As I recall, at one point a shadow even told the truth where the One Ring would have deceived the poor Orcs.
@Karl Auerbach, you would enjoy the Cook Islands if you like very quiet holidays. The reasons we revisit are good snorkelling from shore and no sea snakes😄 and decent food.

We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and stayed at the modest hotel with a kitchenette a couple blocks from the beach. We were very on a budget - ended up eating Mac and cheese a couple of times. It was nice but not world shattering.
I have a very fun ultrasound this afternoon. Drink 30 ounces of water one hour before the appointment. Then don't pee until after the test. Won't that be so much fun? 🤷‍♀️
Hi,( waves in coded "I don't like tourist trap" ).. I don't dislike travel, but it makes me uncomfortable to go to places that are ( or have been ) designed to extract money from a semi-captive audience.In exchange for a "good time". Probably more than a little 'bah humbug' at this age, but I do not feel the same draw that others do. I think it's more, not wanting to feed that particular monster. That is not to say that I am envious of folks that can make these trips and have a great time. My folks did the post retirement travel the world thing from the late 80's till the later aughts. They caught parts of the world in major transitions, some places which have ceased to be, others transformed into tourist show areas. Sigh.
Thursday... laundry's in the machine. Washing my quilt (one of several I have made by my mom the ace quilter) so the cats are all discombobulated by something different on the bed (another quilt). So finicky!

Waiting for snow, but luckily I don't have to go out. May do a bit of cleaning today. The vacuum seems lonely.

And points, @roddio1 for using "uxoriousness" in a sentence! Double points to anyone who didn't have to look it up!
From what I can tell, it's a pretty colonialist place.
Indigenous peoples pushed into enclaves to contend with poverty and exclusion, hidden behind a Potemkin-style facade of corporate-grade happy native fantasy.
It seems like the eventual enshittificaation is driven by scale. My personal metric is once a destination hits a "top ten ( or 20 ) list, it's sort of game over.
If a place has been on a list like that for decades it is either a "luxury" unattainable without substantial financial resources ( or debt ) or a hyped up facade with poverty hidden behind a curtain.
Entertainment as a god given right has really taken over a big chunk of the zeitgeist.
Checking In.
In other news, Amazon workers just went on strike... my monthly Subscribe and Save order of cat food and essential stuff is now in the hands of the Post Office for delivery. Somebody definitely blew it by allowing this to go unsettled right before Christmas.

Good evening, I only know Hawaiii from the NCIS series and I am a bit disappointed that they stopped it...
Speaking of Hawaiii - you couldn't pay me enough to go anywhere tropical. I don't do heat or humidity.
i've only been to one airport in HI (Hawaii), to/from En-Zed.
If you go to the opposite side of O'ahu from Honolulu, you get back to lovely lush tropics and pristine beaches. I once stayed at a bed and breakfast on the peaceful side of O-ahu. The beach there mostly had locals taking walks or jogging. In certain areas a few would surf. It was pleasant and uncrowded.

I wanted to acquire a proper Hawaiian shirt. I found mine at the place where the first such shirts were sold. Andrew then wanted one as well and our B&B host said, really you could get good locally made Hawaiian shirts from the Sears not far from them. They were right! The shirt Andrew bought is good looking and long-lasting.
Yes yes yes @Muse. The windward side of O'ahu is our fave. We camp out at Bellows and hang where the locals go. It's better there. The beaches. The weather. Everything.
@Muse
@Andreas Geisler We saw a lot of Hawaiian sovereignty movement flags posted around the island. Can't say I disagree with your opinion.
I used to get a lot of Hawaiian shirts from Hilo Hatties, but they seem to have significantly reduced their offerings.

I tend to prefer the tapa patterns.

Anyone have suggestions?

I have a friend who made me a really great Hawaiian shirt, but she seems uninterested in making more of them. Sigh.
Heh. So I dragged my hiney out of bed early today and shoveled snow from the driveway of the property I'm leasing. I went inside, took a shower and got dressed for work. When I came out again the driveway had more snow than before I shoveled. Oh Mother Nature, I love you. ;P

At work most of the cars in the parking lot had their wipers up. I laughed and felt proud to be part of the Minnesotan experience. (In case you're wondering, what happens is that after you park the snow turns to slush on the warm window and slides down to freeze where the wipers park. To avoid having your wipers frozen into chunks of ice and rendered impotent you put them up.)

Then, when I came home I had to park on a side street and shovel out the plow berms (x2 one from the street, one from the sidewalk) before I could even get in to park.
On the way to work there is an all-way stop on a slight rise. I know from experience that it gets slicker than snot on a brass doorknob - if you stop at the low side of the intersection you just might not get started again.

So as I'm coming up to this intersection I notice a bunch of cars having trouble so I slow down. Turns out there was a cop in the opposite lane and the drivers of the cars were messing themselves to try and stop at the intersection.

I had a panel truck behind me. There was no traffic coming from the sides. It was not safe. I rolled through the intersection. Showing up to court to contest a ticket was still better than being rammed from behind and not getting to work.
@Richard Yes, it was icy yesterday and after a test brake, I went through the red light. Not slipping and sliding.
@Karl Auerbach Etsy is always the place to go for things like authentic Hawaiian shirts.

I think I'm also in love with this
Pander Shirts
That looks like a repurposed tablecloth for a picnic table, @Muse. 🙂
@Muse
I somewhat miss "digging out." Where I come from (northwestern IL), shoveling snow is how you express self-sufficiency and let the universe know it can't beat you down. I have always thought of moving snow as a triumph of the will.

Not enough snow the past several years to be any kind of challenge. 🥺
I, for one, do not miss shoveling snow.
Thank @Lisa Stranger. I'd fix that if there was a damned edit button.
The universe figured out that a flood is much more effective than a snowstorm at getting out those nasty human-stains.
YES! @Jay Bryant Doesn't it just make you laugh!
I would wear that. Especially to one of our Linux BBQs.
@Lisa Stranger

It was miserable. And my bladder spasmed, and it was hours before I was finally able to fully (as much as I ever can) empty my bladder afterwards. I was in very significant pain. I appreciate the good thoughts, and the gallows humor, from 12 hours distance.
I would say the telescope protesters are in the right.

Science should not become a tool for oppression.

yikes

@Janet Logan 🏳️‍⚧️ gentle hugs
@Karl Auerbach I've started using BT to hotspot my phone internet to my tablet 🤷‍♀️
@Lisa Stranger Thank you. I have since discovered that was actually a kidney stone working it's way through my system. The telltale sign was the blood in my underwear. That's the third time in the past week or so. The stones themselves has (so far) been too small to see. 🤞 that it stays that way.
have, not has. Where is that edit button⁉️
@Janet Logan 🏳️‍⚧️ the edit button is with the less solid Fediverse servers - Friendica. You can't have everything unless you go corporate!
ok... I've been wanting to ask about the food in the main post pic but I can't remember the name of what I think it is. Starts with a "p", they have to pound it into edibility... is that what it is?
Left to right on the dish is vanilla bean ice cream, "shave ice" with multiple flavored syrups, and sugar-toasted mochi with optional bee.
hoo boy I totally missed the mark 🤣 thanks
